What is the purpose of the SideWalker®?
The SideWalker® is designed to instantly provide feedback to dogs that pull on the leash, helping them learn to walk calmly by your side without constant correction.
How does the SideWalker® work?
A sensor under the collar strap is triggered by leash pressure when your dog pulls (or when you guide them). When activated, the dog receives either a vibration or mild stimulation. Most dogs quickly learn that the sensation stops when pulling stops.
How do I fit the SideWalker® to my dog?
Place the collar on the smallest part of the neck, just below the ears. It should be snug but able to rotate slightly. If too tight, it may activate unintentionally. If too loose, activation may be inconsistent. The unit should sit opposite the leash attachment point for proper function.
How do I pick the best setting?
Start on vibration. Gently pull the leash and watch for subtle reactions like a head movement or ear twitch. If no reaction, increase one level at a time. The correct setting is the lowest level your dog notices.
How long will it take for my dog to stop pulling?
Results vary depending on your dog and environment. Many dogs understand the correction after only a few activations, though behavior improvement may be immediate or gradual.
How do I know the SideWalker® is working?
The status light should blink green when powered on. The unit should also vibrate briefly when turned on or when changing settings.
How do I test the SideWalker®?
Turn the unit on and press the pressure sensor under the collar strap. For stimulation levels, use the included test light over the contact posts to confirm proper activation.
How long does the battery charge last?
Battery life depends on use. With typical use (1–2 hours per day), it generally lasts several days between charges.
Is the battery replaceable?
Yes. The rechargeable battery typically lasts several years and can be replaced when it no longer holds a charge effectively.
Do I need to remove it when not in use?
Yes. Removing it when not in use prevents accidental activation and helps preserve battery life.
How big does my dog need to be?
The SideWalker® is safe and effective for dogs as small as 6 pounds.
How old should my dog be?
We recommend starting use between 4–6 months of age, once your dog has a basic understanding of leash pressure.
Will the stimulation hurt my dog?
No. The stimulation is mild—similar to a light static sensation—and is designed only to get your dog’s attention.
Is the SideWalker® waterproof?
Yes, the SideWalker® is fully waterproof.
Are there health restrictions?
Your dog should be healthy enough for leash walking. If you have concerns, consult your veterinarian before use.
Which contact posts should I use?
Use long posts for dogs with thick coats and short posts for short-haired dogs.
Will weather affect performance?
The SideWalker® operates from -25°F to 125°F. Rapid temperature changes may briefly affect performance until the unit stabilizes.
Is there a warranty?
Yes, the SideWalker® includes a one-year warranty.
